The subjects offered by HSIE - Social Science at Mosman High School introduce students to a range of environments — Physical, Built, Social and Economic.
The Teaching and Learning of our subjects is based on the premise that students bring with them a wide range of abilities and learning styles and that each student is strongly encouraged to achieve their personal best.
These courses are all Category A courses for Australian Tertiary Achievement Rank (ATAR) calculation purposes
Courses offered by Social Science have wide applications throughout life. Students gain knowledge, skills and strategies through the use of technologies and a range of other teaching methods. This is designed to equip them as active citizens within a rapidly changing, multicultural society.
Academic rigour is a feature of the Social Sciences. Geography is a compulsory component in Year 7-10 and the students focus on the interconnectedness of local, national and global issues. By gathering, interpreting and synthesising geographical data, both within and outside the classroom, students can gain a 'hands-on' approach to their learning of the Social Sciences.
Subjects cover a wide range of environments and allow further examination of issues, concepts and knowledge. Students are challenged with a diversity of views and are required to undertake thorough individual research, construct reports, and present their conclusions to a variety of audiences.
A key objective is life-long learning within these subjects so that students continue to appraise their own and society's changing values and beliefs.
